1941/42 Eastern Winter Campaign Medal

This medal is better known as the Russian Front Medal. This one also shows signs of wear. Some of the finish has flaked away from the zinc. This is common with most zinc based medals. They do not hold their finish well. It still shows nicely. The ribbon is also very short on this one measuring in at about 1 5/8 inches long. This one is a good honest piece that says...I have been at the front.

Blockade Runners Badge

This is a Blockade Runners badge or Abzeichen fur Blockadebrecher. The award was instituted on April 1, 1941. It was awarded to members of a ship that ran an enemy blockade and reached a German held port safely. It could also be awarded for scuttling the ship to avoid capture or serving aboard a ship lost through enemy action or being wounded during such an action while at sea. This is a nice unmarked badge. It retains most of its matte black finish and the silver on the anchor and eagle. Most of the silver from the chain border has worn away. The one problem with this badge is that the bottom catch has broken off. Other than that, it is a really nice badge. And yes, the third row does have the seven port holes. Due to the broken catch, the badge has been marked below normal market price. A nice filler piece if you do not want to pay $500+ for one that has no damage.

Wound Badge in Silver

This is a nice representation of the Wound Badge in Silver. It is maker marked L/14 for the firm of Friedrich Orth. This particular award is made from zinc and most of the bright silver finish is gone. The pin on the reverse is not perfectly straight, but that does not really affect anything. The badge now maintains a matte gray appearance. It is obvious that this one was worn. A nice makers marked badge at a reasonable price and worthy of any collection.

War Merit Cross with Swords

This is a nice later War Merit Medal with Swords. It is made out of zinc, so all of the bronze finish has worn away over the past 60+ years. The ribbon is short, but is in excellent condition. A nice little award that would perk up any collection.

Iron Cross 1st Class

This is an Iron Cross 1st class or an EK1 (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse). This one is marked L15 for the maker Otto Schickle, Pforzheim. It was worn, but remains in great shape. The front could stand a little cleaning, if you desire. It just has some build up in a few corners and around the 1939 date. The reverse sports the makers mark L15 inside a mortise on the coke bottle pin. It has tarnished over time and you can see where a small sticker was once applied. Perhaps an ID number for a collector or a price tag??? This is the standard private/government issued piece. A similar example can be found 0n page 249 of Stephen Previteras wonderful book- The Iron Time: A History of the Iron Cross. This one is a text book example!!!!

Wound Badge in Black

This is a nice wound badge in black and was awarded for up to three wounds. It is not mint, but this one is not a beater, either. It shows moderate use wear to the higher raised surfaces. A nice badge in better than average shape. This one would display well.

Wound Badge in Black

This is the standard Wound Badge in black. This one has seen some service. It shows wear and some of its black finish is missing to the higher points of the wreath, helmet and swords. This includes the swastika, which makes it stand out. This one has been there and seen service. It was obviously worn by its owner and not a warehouse find at the end of the war.

Wound Badge in Black

This is the standard Wound Badge in black. It was awarded for up to three wounds. This one is practically mint. It shows only a little wear on the reverse attachemnt pin. The front retains 100% of its black finish. You can not get much better than this!!! It would be hard to upgrade!

Wound Badge in Silver

This is a wound badge in silver. Parts of the silver wash on the badge have darkened over time. I would say 20 percent of the original silver wash remains. This is still a nice badge!
