Excavated Sharps Carbine Bullet
(Please wait, picture may take a few seconds to load)
This is a nice example of a Sharps Carbine bullet. The Sharps Carbine was unique, as it let the shooter load from the breech, thus increasing the rate of fire that could be put down range. This is a .54 caliber bullet and was used almost exclusively by U. S. troops. These were not as common as the .58 caliber three ringer. Each bullet may have dried dirt, knicks and pits. Afterall...they did come out of the ground after being dropped at least 142 years ago.
